Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants a UFC strawweight title shot in her return to the cage. Joanna Jedrzejczyk is targeting a fight against the winner of Weili Zhang vs. Rose Namajunas in her return to the cage.
Jedrzejczyk (16-4) hasn’t fought since losing a split decision to Zhang at UFC 248 in March 2020. The fight was 2020’s Fight of the Year and is widely considered the greatest fight in women’s MMA history.
The former strawweight champion Jedrzejczyk called for a ‘bigger piece of the cake’ from the UFC earlier this year and said she isn’t interested in fighting without fans in attendance. However, talking recently to MMA Fighting it seems Jedrzejczyk has changed her tone on a UFC return.
“I called Mick [Maynard] a few days ago and I just told him ‘you know what the baddest b*tch on the planet is back’ so book the fight, watch this fight and tell everybody that I’m next,” Jedrzejczyk said.
“I was waiting for this fight. It’s COVID time, so that’s the only reason why the belt was not stripped. Because once a year you have to defend the belt. But we’re having COVID times but when I was the champ, I was defending this belt like crazy.”
Jedrzejczyk held the strawweight title for over two years and defended it four times before losing out to Namajunas in November 2017. During her time away from the cage she has been working on her autobiography and an upcoming documentary about her fighting career.
“I was the champ for a long time. It’s been a while. I lost the title to Rose Namajunas but I know my value. I gave the fight of the year, the fight of the decade and I know I’m still very good. I don’t waste my time. I keep on training all the time. I can’t wait to get back to American Top Team. I’m doing a big TV deal in Poland but can’t wait to get back to the states and start training with my team again.”
